Dr. Tabla (aka. Dr. Serj)

I am a UK Trained Emergency Medicine Consultant and also a Fusion Tabla Artist. I have created this amazing Family Run Venture called Dr. Tabla.

​

I started learning Tabla when I was 18 years old. At the time I was entering medical school in London. I never had a teacher, but would sit for hours in a week just listening to many different types of songs, watching YouTube videos and playing the drums until I thought something sounded right. I also studied for many exams at the same time, whilst playing and listening to music. I even formed a TDB (Tabla, Dhol, Bhangra) Society at St. George’s, University of London, where I completed my MBBS training.

I initially started posting a few videos on YouTube and the rest is history. For the last few years, I have been performing at events all over the UK and even in Delhi, India. I collaborate with artists all over the world virtually too, and have had great feedback from Social Media Platforms including Instagram and TikTok. My greatest passion is being able to teach children and adults online 1-1 via teams. I also have a love for Gurbani and love to play alongside Shabad Kirtan.

This website is specially designed to guide those who are new to Tabla and want basic online beginner training. I will be running an online Tabla School which will go through the history of Tabla and then an initial 2-stage development process. There will be exclusive content to subscribers including my two full lesson sheets for stage 1 and 2. We will also be learning how to incorporate these lessons in to songs in stage 3 of training.

I am by no means a Professional, and highly respect all the Great Tabla Ustaads, but my aim is to provide some light hearted, loving and fun guidance for beginners around the world, so that everyone can play beautiful Tabla to all types of songs of their choice.

I will also be able to showcase my some of my live performances and people can even get in touch with me to book their events in the future.

I hope you all enjoy and pass on the message, so that we can keep this beautiful, cultural and historical instrument popular amongst all future generations.

My little sister joined us 2 years ago. She is the brains behind the song choices and helps with video production and social media. She is also an amazing Dholi, so if you ever need a female Dhol player, let us know now!!

 

Baneet (The Wifey)

My wife joined me as soon as we got married. She has been an inspiration and motivates me to continue this dream. She has also been on many of my latest gigs, and is an amazing photographer/videographer.
